What makes Adam Lambert qualified?

Okay, so Adam Lambert is gonna be the mentor on American Idol tomorrow.. I was wondering why they picked him, and what makes him qualified? I mean, he didn't even win. Don't get me wrong, he is very talented. I mean wouldn't Kris Allen be kinda ticked?? just wondering and want to know what your thoughts are about this.
