Upgrading my tank... When to add fish?

I would wait at least 24 hours to add the fish from the other tank. And then I would move the fish in a bag with the old water, not to throw them just into new water. Catch the fish with the water in a plastic bag, close the bag and wait for 1 hour until you open the bag and leave the water with the fish glide into the new tank.
