Buddhism = taken a "joke" of a religion?

Buddhism isn't common in the Western world, as it is in the east. So people don't really know much about it as opposed to Christianity. We fear the unknown, so in order to make it less scary, we take it as less serious. Also, being non-asian doesn't help in being taken seriously as a Buddhist since buddhism is predominately an asian religion.
